Our Martial Arts and Fitness Journey: The Journey thus far...........

Welcome to our new family blog on Martial Arts and Health and Fitness.

Last year our family began a journey into the martial arts and toward health and fitness. There were several reasons for this .

1)  My work life  'bouncer' made it hard for us to have time together as a family, we needed to to do something together.

We wanted set a good example to our children as parents, build their confidence  and I particular wanted our kids to sport and exercise that had good ethics and values , that we were  not seeing in sport .

2) I personally had a wake up call around some medical diagnosis as I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, Depression and Anxiety and my GP was concerned about the impact my high stress levels and my obesity was having on my mental and physical health.

3). I found myself as security guard needing to grow in confidence and skills in self-defence situations and removals, working in night clubs in Adelaide Night Club district.

4) I started question my lifestyle around fit and fitness and felt that it not not line up with my Christian values of being a 'good steward' and treating my body as 'temple of the Holy Spirit', so I wanted to make better choices.

The reason I started this blog was to  narrated our journey, express my thoughts , feelings and ideas,  encourage others to go on the health and fitness journey and say to thank to the clubs , communities and people that walk with us on this journey.

The Martial Arts we do:

Everyone,  in my family does Taekwondo with Cheng's Taekwondo , except my teenage daughter who does Jeet June Do with me at Ricardo Vargas Jeet Kune Do.

Both are excellent clubs !

I also do Taekwondo, Jeet Kune Do and Japanese Jujitsu and Karate. I am also getting some personal training at E.F.M fitness centre near Flinder's Hospital, here in Adelaide where I am doing weights and cardio work to accelerate the weight loss.

In this blog I will share about all of them.

( I wont be going into detail about the Japanese Jujitsu/Karate club I train at because they are invite only and don't advertise and I respect that).

I should also like  note that any opinions that I express are my own and don't represent the views of anyone else or where I train and that we are just beginners on a journey.

I'm not here to preach at people about diet , exercise, philosophy or religion, or which martial arts is the best.  I  just share what is working for me and why. As Bruce Lee said:

“Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.” I invite you to do that with anything say and just see them as musings of a beginner

Also I'm not promoting for profit but sharing my passion and seeking encourage others to get fit and thank the people and clubs that are helping become a better person

Last year I was 146 kilo and I'm now only 130 kilo's
and my stress levels and mental heath are much better and as family we have so much fun !

From week to week or as time permits  I want to welcome you to our journey and invite you to explore that journey yourself.  Find a club community try it out .

Welcome and God bless.
